custody yesterday after she broke into the home of elmer roehrs. he was found dead on holly drive wednesday night. now the commonwealth's attorney says she's likely to be charged in his death. johnson is being held without bond. no word on whether charges might be filed. the carnival triumph is being towed away for repairs. thousands of people are back on dry land, free from the nightmare crews. passengers and crew unloaded overnight in mobile, alabama. this is a trip no one on board will soon forget. >> thousands of passengers, a trip that was anything but a vacation is finally over. it pulled into an alabama portal last night. >> we were so ready to be off the boat park. starter buses arrived in galveston texas this morning greta kreuz left from eight days ago. other passengers took a charter bus tto a hotel in orleans for

topping out this afternoon in the mid-50s in the metro. your travel forecast, in chicago, 28 and cold. denver, 34 degrees. partly cloudy with sunshine in the southwest. a little rain and snow in kentucky and west virginia already. we will keep an eye on that. it's moving our way. a coastal storm on saturday. >> the d.c. council is taking a closer look at how the d.c. police handle sexual assault cases. council members discussed a report that said several assault the victims are not getting the response they deserve from the police department. there have been several sexual assaults in northeast since august. the council is considering funding requests to hire more police officers. also, the d.c. taxicab commission held a hearing to discuss a proposed 50 cents surcharge. the commission wants to charge all tax to customers whether

they paid cash or with a credit card. taxi drivers are against the idea because they don't think customers should pay a fee that goes directly to the taxi commission when it's already funded by the city. on capitol hill, lawmakers getting ready for a weeklong recess without having confirmed the new secretary of defense. chuck hagel fell short of 60 votes he needed to break this filibuster on his nomination. only four republican supported him. >> it's unprecedented, this filibuster. never in the history of our country. >> republicans argue they need more time to investigate chuck hagel. democrats say the gop is dragging its feet and only stalling for time to find ways to bring her aagel down. president obama spent a morning meeting with italy's president

at the white house. he will leave for chicago in a short while where he will push for its proposals he made in his state of the union. later this afternoon he's headed to georgia, for a weekend getaway with friends -- headed to florida. a shocking valentine's day murder case. a south african olympic sprinter appeared in court this morning. the double amputee known as the blade runner wept openly in court after being charged with premeditated murder in the death of. his of he shot and killed his girlfriend, a 30-year-old model, reeva steenkamp. it's not clear what led to the shooting. >> we will all know the true story. let's not forget what reva stood for. >> police have received calls on domestic issues and is home previously.

could face life in prison if sentenced. funeral services have been set for university of maryland student killed in a murder- suicide. the funeral will be held tomorrow in pennsylvania for stephan rane. the other a student is recovering. l.a. police have positively identified the remains found inside a cabin in southern california. it was gunman christopher dorner . the former lapd officer killed four people during a nine day rampage which had police officers and their families on edge. the manhunt ended tuesday if after police traded gunfire with the suspect. it is a story that seems to have everyone talking today. hundreds of people injured in russia after meteorites slammed into a city in the mountains. this comes on the same day as an asteroid barely mrs. the earth.

happening in the hospital atrium. before we turn to the weather we had quite a morning. you were very entertaining out there, adam caskey. it was a blast with the puppies in a upper montgomery county really making a difference. here we go. they are trained to help military veterans. >> scott thuman is there for the ground-breaking now. it's about the what puppies do. >> it is the puppy in richmond center for the war your cade knight connection. you can go to their web site for more. what they do is they bring in veterans with ptsd and those veterans train the puppies who go on to help other veterans. they really make a difference. i was hearing first hand from a staff sergeant in the army. told me how they made a huge difference in his life. he went from two hours of

sleep per night to five hours. he's very involved. they started in 2008 and they are really expanding the program >> . so precious. this is a great day to take the dog out, too. it's beautiful. >> they have a live puppy cam that's popular. they all have weather names because they were born around hurricane sandy. we had a lovely morning earl ier in brazil, maryland. mostly sunny with a few patches of clouds in aldie, virginia. a beautiful day with sunshine. 52 degrees at reagan national. the wind out of the south and 27 miles an hour -- only 7 miles an hour. above-average because that's the one direction. 61 degrees in culpeper.

60 in fredericksburg. 47 along the water in quantico, 49 in lexington park, 52 at reagan national, 48 in hagerstown. wide-ranging temperatures that we are used to. the clouds are not far off in west virginia and western maryland. the leading edge of the precipitation moving into west virginia, and kentucky and tennessee. the risk is not much precipitation we are looking at for this evening and tonight's. once it moves in, temperatures will drop a little with the cold front. that should change some of it over to snow. at least a light wintry mix around the beltway around midnight. a weak area of low pressure causing precipitation. overall, we may get a quarter inch of rain. backed by 2:00 a.m. then a light coating of snow

along the mason-dixon line and some locations far northwest of washington by early tomorrow morning. the big thing with the cold front, much colder air moving into town for the weekend. highs in the 30's. if areas of grain around 8:00 p.m., starting around 6:00 or 7:00 in the beltway. by midnight, the wintry mix shown in purple, brown the district, little to no accumulation for the vast majority of our area. a coastal storm will developed far off the mid-atlantic coast line in the ocean. that could bring us a few snow showers on saturday. futurecast is picking up on that. we could see a few snowflakes on saturday, amounting to a light coating. minimal amounts. long the mason-dixon line is where we could have an inch or two by the end of saturday or sunday morning from the coastal storm. that's a possibility. one out of 10 for the snow
